Coherex Medical Announces Lunch Symposium during TCT 2009
(the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics Conference) on Tues., Sept. 22, 2009
SALT LAKE CITY – September 17, 2009 – Coherex Medical, Inc. today announced that it will host a lunch symposium titled “In-Tunnel PFO Closure: Treating the Tunnel Using the Coherex FlatStent™ EF PFO Closure System” on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 during TCT 2009 (the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference).
The Coherex lunch symposium will be held from noon to 1 p.m. (PDT) in Room 121 of the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, the location for this year’s annual TCT conference, which is produced by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF). The Coherex symposium will feature brief lectures and commentary from leading interventional cardiologists who have vast experience in structural heart disease and closing patent foramen ovale (PFO), a common heart defect.
Coherex Medical’s Lunch Symposium Details
Mark Reisman, M.D., Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute in Seattle, will serve as moderator for the Coherex lunch symposium. Presenters during the symposium, and their respective topics, include:
- Martin Leon, M.D., Associate Director of the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapy at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia Medical Center; Professor of Medicine at Columbia University; and Chairman Emeritus of CRF (each in New York City); Topic: “Introduction: ‘In-Tunnel’ PFO Closure has Arrived!”
- Brian Whisenant, M.D., Utah Heart Clinic and Coherex Medical Co-founder and Chairman (both in Salt Lake City) and Intermountain Medical Center (Murray, Utah); Topic: “How the Coherex FlatStent PFO Closure System Works”
- Ziyad Hijazi, M.D., Director, Rush Center for Congenital & Structural Heart Disease, Section Chief, Pediatric Cardiology, Professor of Pediatrics & Internal Medicine, Rush University Medical Center (Chicago); Topic: “Tunnel Morphology. It’s Important, But Not Why You Think!”
- Horst Sievert, M.D., Director of the CardioVascular Center Frankfurt, Sankt Katharinen, and the Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Vascular Medicine of the Sankt Katharinen Hospital (Frankfurt, Germany); Topic: “Clinical Results and Lessons from the Coherex-EU Clinical Trial”

- David Muller, M.D., Associate Professor, Director of Interventional Cardiology, St. Vincent’s Hospital (Sydney, Australia); Topic: “New Device – Short Learning Curve. My Experience Learning the Coherex FlatStent EF Method”
Following the presentations, Dr. Reisman will lead a short Question & Answer session with the symposium presenters.
Coherex announced in June that the Coherex FlatStent EF was the first “in-tunnel” device to receive CE Mark clearance for closing PFO heart defects, a condition found in approximately 20 percent of the worldwide population.
